An Oriole Nest

While the male Bullock’s oriole will gather materials and help in the construction of a nest, the female carries out the engineering marvel of weaving thousands of interlacing strands into a hanging pouch, usually at the ends of pendulous branches which is out of reach of heavier nest robbers. This nest, seen in the Eel River Canyon, is composed of natural fibers like Lace Lichen with a soft interior of moss, plant down and feathers.
