A late season, or “final” rotation of a large flock of sheep is a strategic pulse of a grazing treatment aimed to optimize the ecological health of the soil and productivity of the coming year’s growth. Standing Residual Dry Matter (RDM or “thatch”) is reduced which not only mitigates dry grass “fine fuels” in fire season, but also enhances seed-to-soil contact and germination in the coming growing season.
