Gallinago delicata are among the most widespread shorebirds in North America, they breed in the far north and migrate as far south as northern South America to over-winter. Snipes tend to be shy and secretive and when startled, burst into a fast zig-zagging flight, their huge flight muscles allow for a max speed of around 60 mph.
