Willow Catkins

Willow trees tend to produce their flowers early in the spring before their leaves emerge, they have a layer of fuzzy hairs that help insulate the reproductive parts allowing them to bloom in cold weather. These early bloomers are an important early food source for bees and flies when other pollen and nectar sources are yet to show up.
