White Crowns and Oak Flowers

A flock of White-crowned sparrows (Zonotrichia leucophrys) were happily chowing among new male oak flowers, “catkins”. While catkins are a food source for many critters, oaks are known to attract dozens of species of insects who’s larvae are a protein packed snack for birds.
