“When a tree falls in the woods…”

…Whether it makes a sound or not, it certainly begins a sequence of ecological processes that involve many creatures. Beetles, wasps and others soon begin burrowing into the newly deceased tree, these insect’s larvae are the food for woodpeckers who make holes and habitat for cavity nesting birds. Many types of fungus also quickly move in. A tree continues to provide long after it is done living.
