Western Yellowjacket

Vespula pensylvanica are native ground nesting wasps. This time of year there are growing larvae to feed and the workers bring all manner of insects (above) fruit and nectar to share with the colony. They are also busy excavating and removing soil (below) to create bigger chambers.
