Celebrating and Caring for the Land

Western Pond Turtle

Actinemys marmorata can be found along the west coast from southern Canada to northern Mexico. They are drawn to bodies of fresh water where they are able to feed on a range of plant life, small creatures and carrion. They’ve adapted to deal with drought by either burying themselves in the mud of a drying pond or heading out over the landscape where they may live for months hiding in burrows or under leaf litter until the rains return.
