Western Fence Lizard variations

Sceloporus occidentalis is our most common lizard and often found sunbathing or displaying on rocks, logs or fence posts. They are able to change the color of their scales in response to their surroundings as well as helping to regulate their body temperature. They sometimes drop the end of their tails when threatened by a predator and slowly regrow a new one (below). (Click image for larger versions)
