Neohermes californica are a member of the Megaloptera family which includes dobsonflies, alderflies and fishflies. Members of this family have long, soft, flexible bodies, 2 pairs of membranous wings and long filiform antennae. Most species in this family live out their larval phase in the water and become winged in their reproductive phase.
