Celebrating and Caring for the Land

Water Striders

Gerris remigis can be found throughout much of North America, a member of the “true bugs”, their front legs are used for catching insect prey and piercing / sucking mouth parts slurp up the juices. The shape of their other four legs help prevent them from breaking the surface tension and allow them to skate on top of the water. Some Water Striders are known to develop wings in response to a habitat drying out and fly off to more hydrated pastures.
