Toyon Pigments

As the green chlorophyll in Toyon leaves begins to break down in the waning autumn sun, the red anthocyanin pigments remain for a while until enzymes begin to dismantle the leaves’ cells leading to a collapse in tissues then the final brown hue of decay.
