Toad Rush and Cows

Little clumps of Juncus bufonius can often be found in recently grazed meadows, apparently pulled then rejected by a discerning bovine. Toad Rush is a small native annual member of the rushes, other rushes are known to be unpalatable to cows…or maybe it’s the dirty roots that are off-putting…?
