Layia platyglossa is a native herb in the aster family which can be found in drier meadows in the western part of North America. The white outer ring surrounding the yellow center is like a bulls-eye guiding insects towards the nectar producing glands near where pollen is picked up and deposited by many types of insects. The seed bearing fruits are also a favorite food for birds and are also wind dispersed.
