“the Wolf Trees”

In the long slow transition from the ancient landscape to the modern, some trees avoid the axe and live long to grow in creative and messy ways. Left out in the open sunlight and without competition, lateral branches chase sunlight over decades and centuries to form unique and tortuous shapes. The complex structure of these trees provide excellent habitat for many, many other creatures…including humans. (Click image for larger versions)
