Otospermophilus beecheyi, also known as the “Beechey Ground Squirrel,” creates burrows that are around 4 feet deep and up to 30 feet long with multiple chambers. These underground engineers create habitat for other small creatures as well as turning and aerating the soil and serving as a food source for many predators.
