Teasel Flowers

Dipsaucus fullonum is a biennial herb from Eurasia, brought here in the 1700’s and now found invading sunny spots throughout much of the world. Their characteristic inflorescence is a cylindrical array of lavender flowers which matures into a cone of spine-tipped bracts. The dried seed heads were used in the textile industry to comb and raise the nap of fabrics.
