Taking the Kids to the Pool

Many birds will visit bodies of water to stand in the shallows and bathe but birds like swallows which have small weak feet prefer to take their baths on the wing. These young Violet-green Swallows were practicing their splash-down techniques on a hot day, it’s believed they do this for feather maintenance, temperature regulation, hydration, parasite control…and maybe just because it’s fun.
