Subterranean Clover

Trifolium subterraneum is also known as “Sub Clover” or “Burrowing Clover” on account of its habit of tucking it’s self-fertilizing flowers down to the ground where the seeds will develop (Geocarpy). Native to Europe, it has been utilized in agriculture as an excellent fodder and spread to Australia and parts of North America including California.
