Celebrating and Caring for the Land

Song Sparrow Nest Building

Melospiza melodia, one of the most common little-brown-birds in North America can be found from the Aleutian Islands to Mexico. Part of their success owes to their willingness to nest near and around human habitation, often in backyards and gardens. A nest takes around 4 days to build, the eggs will incubate in 12-15 days and the young will take 9-12 days to fledge…that’s about a month per brood and the ability to have multiple broods per year.
