After the first big rains of the season, some predators are taking advantage of the freshly softened soils to dig for gophers and make burrows. Coyotes tend to dig holes, in their canine way, that are vertically oriented while badger burrows are more horizontally widened due to their body plan and way of digging. Coyotes and badgers are known to fraternize and hunt together…wonder who’s responsible here? (Click image for larger versions)
