Gallinule galeata, formerly known as the Common Moorhen, is known to be a reclusive and hard to find local member of the rail/crake/swamphen family, Rallidae. Sometimes seen associating with their more common relative the American Coot, they nibble vegetation, seeds, snails and insects and use their long-toed big feet to walk atop floating vegetation and propel them into flight.
