Sexy Lizard Push-ups

Male Western Fence Lizards can be seen doing “push-ups” this time of year in an effort to assert dominance and attract mates. The subtle repositioning of body scales relative to the sun creates a refractory strobe-like effect that may ward off competing males and entice potential mating females. This nearby female seemed to be showing her admiration by lifting her tail.
