Scrub Jay Snack

Our California Scrub Jay has a slightly hooked upper mandible which comes in handy carrying and breaking into acorns, one of its favorite autumn foods. While some acorns are eaten, many are plucked and buried as a future food store, some of which germinate and become a new Oak tree. (Click image for larger versions)
