Ring-necked Pheasant

A close relative of chickens, turkeys, partridges, etc (family Phasianidae), Phasianus colchicus was introduced from Asia to to the U.S. in the 1880’s. Pheasants have long been hunted as a favorite game bird and also for their feathers, prized for fly fishing and the haute couture hat industry.
