Celebrating and Caring for the Land

Regenerating a Tail

Salamanders are among the highest orders of animals that can regenerate lost or damaged body parts; tails, limbs, spinal cords, hearts and even the lenses in their eyes. Tails are commonly dropped when threatened as a predator deterrent or distraction. It’s an energy-intensive process but the wound is healed and various cells migrate and differentiate to rebuild tissues including muscle, skin, bone and nerves.
