Red Toyon Leaves

Like many perennial shrubs in the springtime, Toyon will simultaneously be trading out an annual new set of leaves for older ones. Both old and new leaves haven’t enough chlorophyl to appear green while secondary pigments like anthocyanin and carotenoids show their true colors.
