Western Pond Turtles, Actinemys marmorata, are coming out of their hibernation, “brumation” where they’ve either wandered off to settle into some leaf litter or under the pond muds relying on “cloacal respiration”…imagine that! With the lengthening daylight offering precious warmth to ectotherms, they’re more commonly found basking in the sunlight and tussling for prime spots on pond logs.
