California Bay Laurel, Umbellularia california, has been known to live more than 200 yrs and grow to over 100ft tall with over 120ft spread. Both these old-timers were 10-12ft in diameter and hidden far off the beaten path where they managed to avoid the demand for “myrtlewood”, prized for use in furniture, cabinetry, paneling and guitars.
