Anas platyrhynchos may be the most familiar of all ducks, it can be found throughout North America and Eurasia and is the ancestor species of most domestic ducks. They can produce up to 13 eggs per brood and can breed a couple times a year. Newly hatched ducklings are born alert, covered in down and ready to leave the nest in a matter of hours.
