Kite Nest Building

The male white-tailed kite snaps twigs from branches and brings them to the nesting site where the female constructs a shallow stick bowl high in a tree near their foraging territory. These nests are often difficult to see from below but exposed from above allowing for easy access in and out. Kites may also build secondary “dummy” nests which may aid in deceiving predators or serve as a future nest site as they are not known to re-use the same nest twice.
