“Inchworm”, “Spanworm” or “Measuring worm”, these caterpillars in the Geometridae family got their name from their unique means of locomotion. Having six legs up front and four prolegs in the rear, their preferred gate of looping their bodies (Looper moths) appeared to someone to be measuring distances. While adorable, they can be a real plant-eating problem for gardeners and farmers.
