Hermit Trush and Countershading

Also known as “Thayer’s law”, many animals make use of a darker upper-side and a lighter under-side which aids in camouflaging and remain unseen from above or below. Combined with a secretive, stealthy and cautious temperament, thrushes use this as defense against predation as well as cover from which to pounce on unsuspecting insects.
