greater Yellowlegs

Tringa melanoleuca, also known as the “marshpiper”, is in the sandpiper group and looks very similar to its relative “Lesser Yellowlegs”. Breeding in northern Canada and overwintering in the southern U.S. it’s seen visiting mudflats and marshes while migrating through Northern California. (Click image for larger versions)
