Great Egret

The symbol for the National Audubon Society, the Great Egret has made a comeback thanks to conservation efforts after it was nearly extirpated in the late 1800’s…the big breeding plumes on it’s back adorned many fancy hats in the day.
When not tiptoeing through the wetlands they’re sometimes seen hunting small critters in the meadows. Just getting ready to strike (above) and feather’s ruffled (below) after an unsuccessful strike.
