Checker Lilies can vary in the shades and tones of those purplish-yellow flowers, their close relative, a different subspecies, the “Chocolate lilies” are more rare and found in coastal Marin county. They have leaves arranged in whorls and emerge each year from a perennial bulb. They’re most commonly found in open Oak or Pine woodland.
