California Toad

Anaxyrus boreas halophilus is one of two subspecies of “Western Toad” in California. They’re most often seen crawling or walking, only sometimes taking short hops. When threatened, they hunker down in the soil leaving their poisonous parotoid glands exposed to deter predators.
