Bull Thistle

Cirsium vulgare, also known as “Spear thistle”, is a non-native biennial from the mediterranean region now found as a noxious weed in many places around the world. Despite that bad reputation its abundant nectar is enjoyed by many insects and the seeds are a favorite of goldfinches as well as the fluffy pappus being utilized in nest building.
