Bees in Sonoma Sunshine

Blennosperma bakeri, “Sonoma Sunshine” is an endangered vernal pool specialist found in only a handful of places in the North Bay Area. On this day there were hundreds of small black native bees busy gathering nectar and pollen. Some native bees carry pollen on their abdomens and others on the “pollen baskets” on their legs. Pollen is taken back to their nest and left as food for the next generation.
