Bark Pockets

“Included bark” or “ingrown bark” happens when a tree grows around another stem or branch. Where there is included bark the wood fibers needed to maintain structural integrity are not allowed to grow and can lead to weakness in a tree. The parts that get ingrown usually die back and leave a rotting section within an otherwise healthy tree. (Click image for larger version)
