Autumn Oak Color

Triggered by decreasing day length, oak leaves begin to senesce in the autumn. As the greens of chlorophyll decay, the yellow carotenoids become more visible, then ultimately the color fades to brown. [Coast Live Oak (above), Black Oak (below) and Oregon White Oak (bottom)]
