Ash-throated Flycatcher

Myiarchus cinerascens is one of the new world “Tyrant Flycatchers”, one of over 400 species in the Tyrannidae family. While they do breed in Sonoma County, they are better known to be a dry woodland, scrub and desert species which has adapted to get all its water from its food (insects) and not needing to drink water.

Any idea why the name Tyrant? This beautiful bird does not look like a terrible oppressor.
