American Bittern

Botaurus lentiginous (also known as the “Thunder-pumper” on account of its distinctive booming call) is a mid-sized heron found in wetlands throughout North America. They spend their time hunting by actively stalking their prey or by patiently standing motionless, bills pointed skyward and swaying back and forth to blend into their reedy surroundings.
