Abdomenless Ant

This new winged queen Carpenter Ant was seen climbing around in the grass…without an abdomen. What happened to it and how is it still alive? There are many accounts of insects being able to live for days without their abdomens but since many of the internal organs of an ant are in the abdomen it does eventually die.
