Sceloporus occidentalis, also known as the “Blue-belly” may be the most commonly found lizard with 5 subspecies in California. With the rise of urbanized environments, studies have found these lizards develop shorter limbs and toes in response to living on man-made surfaces versus their usual favorite, woody surfaces.
