Bushtit nests are a complicated delicate labor of love. A breeding pair can spend a month constructing their nest, a woven hanging sack held together by spider webs and plant material. The inside is lined with feathers, fur and soft plant matter (cozy), the outside is covered and camouflaged with bits of lichen and leaf usually from the tree it’s hanging in. This nest, unfortunately, was damaged by high winds moving the branches and tearing the bottom out (last photo).
