Megaceryle alcyon is a year-round resident and the only one of the known 120 species of Kingfishers found in California. This one was one of a family of five found warily chattering together in the Laguna de Santa Rosa. They breed in burrows dug into earthen banks near water…where their favorite fishy food can be found.
