Nonvenomous Constrictor

Gopher snakes lack the venom and heat-sensing facial pits of rattlesnakes, they use their black tongue to “taste” around for prey. Killing by constricting involves catching, coiling around and squeezing prey until its circulatory system is overwhelmed, preventing blood from getting to the brain. They also have round pupils while rattlesnake’s pupils are vertically oriented.
