Starting to dry up

Since a wet beginning of the rainy season it’s been a few months of low rainfall. These California Goldfields (Lasthenia californica) and other annual plants growing in shallow soils are already beginning to desiccate and drop seed. Dry years affect the size and reproductive vigor of these plants which can diminish the populations over time.
