Sturnis vulgaris, the celebrated creators of “murmurations”, often form huge flocks and move in impressive shape-shifting clouds. Introduced in North America in the 1800’s, they’re now found throughout the continent and are sometimes considered to be a pest. So many hungry mouths can make a large impact on local insect populations (notice the caterpillar in the beak in the photo at bottom).
